The services of a Psychologist are private and confidential. That
means that everything you tell a Psychologist cannot be released
without your written consent. However, there are FOUR
exceptions where I am required by law and professional regulation to
break confidentiality and communicate with appropriate agencies: - If I believe a client is a danger to themselves or others, Emergency, Police, and/or the potential victim would be informed.
- If I believe a child is currently being, or is at risk of being abused, the Children's Aid Society must be informed.
- If
I become aware that a client has been sexually abused by another
regulated health professional, I must report this provider to their
regulatory board if the name of the alleged abuser is known. If I
become aware that a client who is a regulated health professional has
sexually abused a patient/client, I must report that client to their
regulatory board.
- If a court of law subpoenas a client's records, parts or all of the record may be released to the court.
